Where did the "Display Limits" toggle go on a multi-image field?

I’m new to Webflow and, like many, have found the minor discrepancies between the Webflow university videos and the latest version Webflow a bit confusing. While I was able to find answers here to different questions, I couldn’t find anything showing where I could limit the amount of images displayed in my CMS Collection page template (as shown on Day 7 video from the 21-day portfolio design course).

Below are the two screenshots:

  • The “Before” screen from the video
  • The “After” screen from my page

Thanks in advance for your help!

Should be under sort order.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the reply. That’s how I hoped mine would show as well. I’m adding a screenshot of what I see available under my Collection list settings… I might have missed a step somewhere?

Also: Beautiful dog you have! Here’s the newest member of our family: Copper.

@Kell - Thanks. That is Denver and he knows it! You have a cute pup there. Congratulations!

Back to your issue, notice that my collection list has a custom attribute? I suspect you don’t have any items defined with bound fields. Hard to tell as you should always share a read-only project link so others can look at your settings and I can’t inspect yours.

Sorry I missed that step. Here’s the read-only link to the project.

@Kell - When sharing your read-only from the designer, please make sure you are doing so from the page or template you are having an issue with. I had to hunt down where you were.

I understand you are working on a project template and encountering an issue using a multi-image field. The problem stems from the fact that Webflow does not allow you to limit the number of items returned by that element. To restrict the number of items on the front end, you must use custom code to hide or remove the images after loading them in the browser.

So, the no-code way to achieve what you want is to add only the images to the multi-image field as you want to be displayed when using those fields as the collection source in a CMS template. Note that Webflow automatically will limit the returned items to five when you create a collection list anywhere else but the collection template for the collection that contains the multi-image field.

@webdev Thanks for the detailed explanation and instructions on what to share, I assumed it was a rookie mistake on my end but now know how to do better. Also, I will make sure to share the link from the correct spot next time. Thanks again!

So I’m following the same 21 day portfolio that Kell is referencing, and I just want to make sure I understand. The part in the webflow university video linked here where he sets “limit items” when using the collection list linked to the “multi image field” from the CMS isn’t actually possible?

Is “that element” you refer to multi-image fields? I can accept if that’s the case, I’m just confused because it seems like he shows step by step how to do it on the video.

Yep, no longer possible since there is no option to limit items now on a mult-image field via the collection interface in settings. Maybe Webflow thought this was an improvement or simply forgot.
