What are the advantages of using the columns element?

I’m still struggling with the basics to get my site running and have way more questions than I’ve found answers to.

As the title asks, What are the advantages of using columns elements?

Hi @nagoyacanuckjp in ancient time of building website layout with “tables” there were other uses for “text columns” but since we have Flex and Grid the “text columns” are helpful only when you would like to spread long text into columns as you can see in newspapers that is why they are called “text columns”. Otherwise none.
