This week, Webflow is releasing its long-awaited AI SEO & AEO features.
I’ve been beta testing them for a month now, and here are my honest thoughts.
TLDR: It’s a net win for SEO, and for websites in general.
Nobody likes writing alt text or crafting meta descriptions. They’re boring, repetitive, and often overlooked.
If you’re the kind of person who wants granular control over every SEO details, these new features might not be a perfect fit. Let’s break it down.
How do you access the new AI SEO features?
To use Webflow’s AI SEO tools, your site needs to be on a paid plan. Once that’s sorted, here’s how to get started:
Audit (1) → Sitewide or Current page (2) → List of missing SEO items (3)
You can also go the manual route:
-
Meta Title & Description: Go to your Page Settings > SEO Settings
-
Assets: Asset panel > Asset alt text
-
Schema: Go to your Page Settings > Schema markup
Now let’s take a deeper look at the 3 main AI features.
1. Webflow AI for Alt text
This is where the AI shines. In just three clicks, you can generate alt text for all your assets. Switching from to Sitewide (2) and you can generate it for all your website ![]()
limitations to keep in mind:
Alt text for people
AI can’t recognize individuals. For my own website, I wanted my personal image associated with my work. That means I manually add alt text like “Sofian Bettayeb, Webflow SEO Checklist” The AI? It just describes the photo.
So, if identity is relevant for your business or website, skip AI generation.
For stock images or decorative shots, it will definitely speed up your workflow.
CMS images aren’t supported (yet)
Right now, only assets from the Assets panel can use AI-generated alt text. CMS images aren’t supported yet, but according to the Webflow team, it’s on the roadmap.
2. AI for Meta title and description
If your traffic comes from Google, your meta title and description are your first impression. They set expectations. They drive clicks.
If you’ve never really thought about them before, this feature is made for you. The AI will crawl your content and suggest a meta title and description in seconds. 95% of the time, they are “publish” ready.
Limitations so far:
- You can’t define a template like “Brand | Page Title”. It means that if you want harmonised meta titles between your page, you will have to do it by hand. Still, I got surprised to see that the AI was integrating “CMS fields” on the CMS collection page.
CMS collections AI generation
- You can’t manually set a focus keyword. That said, if your content is already optimised, the AI usually picks it up.
3. Webflow AI for Schema markup
When I heard Webflow was working on AI-generated schema, I knew it wouldn’t be easy.
Schema is tricky. Matching the right schema to the right page type, pulling the correct data, is hard, even for humans.
While building the AI SEO Copilot app, we decided to only generate Google-approved schema and always include user input.
Webflow went the “one click full schema” generation and of course, it has…
Limitations :
a) The schema is hard to read
Once generated, the schema appears as a big block of JSON-LD. Don’t just publish it blindly. You need to read it. You need to understand it. And you definitely need to validate it with a Schema Validator.
However, a valid schema features doesn’t mean your schema is useful, if the content is wrong.
b) The AI might pull the wrong content
This was one of the most common issues during the beta. For example, the AI might use an icon instead of your logo. For the AI, those two things are “similar enough.”
You’ll need to check and correct the content manually.
c) Google Search Console might flag issues
Even if your schema is valid, Google might not use it. Worse: it might trigger errors in Search Console. You’ll get notifications like:
“New review snippet structured data issues detected for [your site]”
These emails can freak out your clients if they don’t know what’s going on. You can access the Review Snippets Tool on Search console here.
d) More content to maintain
Schemas are now a second layer of content. If you update your website, you’ll also need to update the schema.
For example, you get a new FAQ, you need to update the question and answer on page and on the schema.
Double amount of work.
It might feel a good idea to add schema on all you page, but it’s not. I’m happy there are no feature to “bulk generate schema”.

Conclusion: A win, but not for everyone
Webflow’s AI SEO tools are a great addition for most users. If you’re managing a simple site and just want to tick the SEO boxes quickly, these tools will save you time and frustration.
For alt text, meta tags and schema, worst case scenario isn’t as bad as you imagine. If you publish something weird, Google will probably just ignore it.
Here’s my final take:
-
Alt text: No-brainer. Massive time saver. Just avoid using it on People

-
Meta tags: Great time saver and works great. If you care a lot about CTR on the SERP, you might want to go further with a specific… Webflow SEO app.
-
Schema: Looks easy, but can easily backfire. You’ll likely end up with more work than before.
As the maker of AI SEO Copilot , I’m honestly happy Webflow is making SEO & AEO more accessible. While they focus on simplicity, we’ll keep pushing for control and precision.
Even if Webflow gives you the power to do SEO in one click, please, consider reviewing and double checking before publishing, to avoid weird conversation with your clients.
