URL With BackSlash in 2021

In 2015, someone asked if it was possible to rewrite a URL from

www.mydomain.com/mypage

to

www.mydomaincom/mypage/

with a backslash for SEO reasons.

URL with Backslash

I am moving a site from Wordpress to Webflow and the digital marketer who worked for the company recently did 301 redirects from all the main pages that previously had no backslash to identical URLs all with backslashes.

That is from mydomain/mypage to mydomain/mypage/

Two questions:

  1. Is it still not possible to use a backslash on a url in webflow?

  2. If it is not possible, any advice on whether or not I need to do 301 redirects back from all the urls with backslashes to pages without backslashes?

I understand that google treats them the same, but since the marketing agency did redirects I’m not sure what the best course of action would be.

Thanks,
Kevin

I decided to email customer support to see what the exact policy was regarding trailing backslashes, and this is how they replied:

Webflow will redirect pages with trailing slashes to the URL without the trailing slash based on how Webflow hosting is structurally designed. So there’s no need to setup redirects at our end.

Also, I would recommend leaving the trailing slash off when sharing links to pages on your site. That way, there will be one less redirect to go through.

Here’s what Google says about redirect chains (see 3. Fix redirect chains in the article):

" While Googlebot and browsers can follow a “chain” of multiple redirects (e.g., Page 1 > Page 2 > Page 3), we advise redirecting to the final destination . If this is not possible, keep the number of redirects in the chain low, ideally no more than 3 and fewer than 5. "

Looks like this is only a question people new to webflow or people experiencing random bugs are asking. I found a few other posts:

It seems this structure is invariable for webflow.

I hope it helps others looking for the response.

Best,
Kevin
