Trying to understand collections and what they can and cannot do

I’ve been looking at the videos about collections and am still unsure about what their purpose is and how they can be put to use.

If I make a database is this something the website user can access or filter, or can only I do that as the designer?

For example, if I make a collection of pictures of animals, could the website user apply a filter and view only my pictures of “dogs” or “turtles” etc.?

Not yet really, there is not yet dynamic filters that we can use on categories or tags (no real tags system). It will surely come one day.

However depending on how many images you have, you have creative solutions, like having a tab element with one tab for dogs and one for turtles, with a collection list inside of each tab, set to show only dogs or turtles.
