Styling Collection Pages using Grid

Hi there, does anyone know if a Collection List can be designed exactly as the below?

When I pull binded elements into a Grid & attempt to size Areas, the message ‘Collection List items can’t be positioned into grid areas’ appears & I find I’m unable to place a Grid in a Collection List Wrapper.
but that seems odd to me. Surely there must be a workaround (that I’m yet to discover)?
