Setting Nav bar buttons CSS to be 'active state' without using webflow filters

Hey guys, I have these two buttons(navlinks) on my navigation bar for language options.

I have shaded the American flag with the webflow filters (brightness - 60%) to show that the left flag is at the active state, and would like to have it change when the American Flag if active.

I’ve managed to set this up with the webflow filters, but I figured that filters are not supported for IE, so I was wondering how I could get the workaround?

Try opacity 60% instead of filters!

The opacity only allows the background color behind the flags to change, which doesn’t really work.
