Search query inconsistencies

Our client has been finding some inconsistencies in the search feature on their website.

If they search for ‘In Tune’ (name of an artwork), the following articles show up:

  • Items with the word ‘tune’ in the title
  • Items with the word ‘tune’ in the body text
  • Items with the word ‘in’ in the title

If we search for ‘in’, the following articles show up:

  • Items with the word ‘in’ in the body text
  • Items with the word ‘in’ in the title

This latter query specifically does not incorporate articles that use the word ‘in’ in their body text (like this one).

Why does it include 3 kinds of items in the first query, and only 2 in the second?

I’d like to explain the client how the search feature functions, and we don’t want to go with ‘that’s just how it works’.

Here is my site Read-Only: [LINK]

Webflow search offers no tuning capabilities so you are stuck with what you get.

Only alternative is to look into replacing it with something that offers you more control.

If you’re wanting to search artwork directly by title, you probably want a filter page rather than site search.

However it’s possible to hybridize the site search page, so that it also contains a collection list of your artwork, fully filterable. Then you’d see both site search results and artwork-specific title matches in a single view.

To do this I use Finsweet CMS Filter + CMS Load on the search page itself, and connect them to the search input.
