I cannot seem to find how to disable ecommerce function in free theme Luma. Is there any way to use this theme without shop? Would appreciate any tips.

Unfortunately, as @JanneWassberg has already mentioned, you cannot disable the eCommerce part of a site if it’s already been enabled.
There is an existing wishlist request for this feature, if you would like to add your vote for it -
