Localization doubts

Hello, we have a website with a large blog that is currently written in English. We are considering activating the Localization feature to allow us to capture some additional traffic in non-speaking countries like Germany, France, etc. But we have a few questions on the localization tool:

  • we have around 200 blog posts, each with 3k to 4k words. If we are to translate the whole blog to lets say german, do we have a cap on the word count? i noticed that the advanced plan has a 50k word cap, does this mean we would need to consider this cap to translate all of the existing 200 blog post?

  • we only want to translate the blog and not the rest of the site, is this possible?

There is a monthly cap on the automatic machine translation, since it costs WF to use Amazon Translate. I’ve never really hit that cap ( very rarely ), but it’s possible.

My guess is you’ll be fine, but it could take 2 months to get through them all. I.e. you’d do most of them during month 1, and then finish out translating the remaining items in month 2.

Yes, you choose what to translate.

Thanks Memetican for your help! Regarding the Cap, considering that I will be translating 200 blogs with 3k words each i will surely hit the cap on day one. Can I pay to go over that cap? where can i see the cost of additional words?

I don’t know, for some reason I’ve never hit it.
It may be that the initial localization process has higher limits?

I’d check the docs and query support if you’re unsure.
