Maybe it’s the gradual rollout. I got the update mail wit hthis: Introducing client seats: A flexible collaboration experience for your clients | Webflow Updates
That’s not how it’s currently pitched in the announcement messaging (the gradual bit will be the automated migration of the Legacy Editor accounts), but if you add Content Editors manually today, there are definitely big risks/issues present in the current implementation.
Can you elaborate on the issues? Technical, security, UX? I’ve used it only in a few sites due to components that are not up to date in other sites.
I’m taking a deeper dive into the Client Seat CMS editor and I’ve just come to realize that Webflow has not only deprecated the CMS editor but also broke the divide between the Client and the Agency. The whole reason we started using Webflow back in 2014 was due to the simplicity of the CMS editor.
Obviously, the Designer was a key part of the tool and the features have continued to be amazing. However, the clear separation of Client / CMS Editor / Marketing team AND the Agency UI Web Designer allow us to manage our clients perfectly.
This new approach is going to make the Client feel like a ADMIN and it also completely changes how they manage their content. - Am I missing something?
Here is a running list of items that I would never give a Client access to - at any permission level in the new “Client Seat” paradigm. However, this is the Marketing Role ( Edit Content Only ) In fact, my standard support agreement with all clients is in direct conflict with this level of permission. Not sure how to square this?
- Reordering pages in the left panel
- Indexing search feature
- Ecommerce - Admin features
- Insights ( None )
- General Settings ( None )
- SEO Setting ( Very few items here )
- Apps & Integration (None )
- Share ( Link )
I’ll keep looking - but am I crazy here? Does anyone else see the same thing I do? Please tell me that the UI is broken or that I’ve made a gross mistake here? Set me on the right path.
I’m still very unclear about all these Editor changes. How utterly complicated can they possibly make it? ![]()
Webflow have honestly left me quite baffled. I’ve tried reading the update notes and even asked support for clarification, but the answers have felt vague and haven’t really explained what is actually changing in practical terms. - its almost like they being intentional vague - just like a Politician.
At the moment I’m not confident I fully understand what will affect existing clients versus new ones, or how best to communicate it all clearly. That uncertainty is frustrating, and makes me look silly.
I have to admit it’s dented my confidence. It feels like a lot of complexity has been introduced without any clear benefit. YET AGAIN Webflow is making changes nobody asked for, while some long requested core features are still missing on the platform.
I’m hoping things become clearer soon, because right now I haven’t a clue what to communicate to my clients, or how to ‘sell’ Webflow to new enquiries.
Can anyone advise that if we have an existing business site with 10 Editor accounts for updating content in the CMS. Does that mean they will still get 10 FREE content editor accounts to do this. Only Content editing and publishing nothing else??? Can’t see if this is right or not!!
I was told last year this was the case but can’t find any reference in the new updated documentation!! On an Agency Workspace
