I am using a free template to create a new website from.
When im made a change to a page I go to the CMS tab, view one of the pages in the list and made a change in it. The things I am changing are on the page itself, not in the CMS information (page title, etc) I am editing things like images, text components etc.
When I update that individual page (linked to a CMS template) all changes in text reflect across all the CMS pages, not just the one im working on. So all my âprojectâ (CMS) pages have the same content now.
Is there a way to stop this happening?
I am not making the change to the template itself, just the child CMS page using the template.
Make sure to watch the Webflow U vids to understand how the CMS works.
There is no âmaster childâ relationship here. When youâre are viewing a collection page on the canvas, the item selector just changes which itemâs content is project into the template.
In brief;
If youâre editing purple-boxed items, youâre editing CMS data.
If youâre editing regular blue-boxed items, youâre editing the template itself and that will affect all of those collection pages.
Your design goal is to put anything you want to make changeable per-page into the CMS, and bind to it.
To make sure ive understood you, here in the screen shot I am editing the template elements (highlighted in blue/white) even though this is not the template page, its the individual project page and this is why its reflecting everywhere else?
For context: im making a portfolio and need the flexibility in pages. So would it be better to just make individual static pages, free of a CMS? The global CMS elements (page title, slugs etc) are useful but its the page contents I want more freedom on.
I canât tell what Iâm looking at since youâve zoomed in.
Have you watched the Webflow U videos? If youâre on a Collection page, those elements are not bound to anything and will affect all collection pages.
If you want unstructured / non-uniform content, thatâs what static pages are for.
This is the full page, this page is a âproject pageâ from the CMS I am editing, these text elements are not in the CMS management part, they are just on the page. But when I edit text it goes across all pages.
