The tutorials say that Webflow automatically chooses the best image resolution (only what’s needed) yet when I drag thumbnail images to my desktop, and open them in photoshop, they are full resolution, many times over what’s needed.

Looks like Webflow is unable to generate responsive images for your img element inside the anchor, within a grid “cell”. Try wrapping the image with a div and see if that will trigger it. Hard to debug here since I can’t tweak and publish.
