I cant add a layer on top of my background

I have seen this done in the webflow video tutorials. You put up a background and then you want it to be darker so you put a black layer on top of it and set the opacity to 50 percent. When I do this nothing happens. 09

Hi @Jacobbrownacro

In the screen shot above you are giving the background a colour. It won’t put an overlay on the image as it is layered behind it. You need to add the overlay to the ‘Add Solid Colour’ option… The button top right above image in your share above. Then add your dark colour at 50% to this layer which will automatically go above the image.
