How to include GIF AND auto play Vimeo in CMS Collection Page

I cannot figure out how to add and style a gif element in the CMS project/collection page. When I get it to show up using the collection list and gallery, it’s challenging to style and looks odd with responsive design.

I want to achieve something like the auto-playing animation used further down the page on this example. SciOPS

I am also having issues with the Vimeo video playing when added to my CMS, it shows on the back end but not on the front. I see this person is using a CDN, does this have something to do with it?

Any insight into how to best achieve this would be greatly appreciated.
