How to centre lightbox portrait thumbnail in square div

Hi all, just hoping for some help with something I just can’t figure out. I want to centre the thumbnail image for a lightbox link in a square div. Works great for landscape pics, but always places the portrait images at the top. Wrapper and contents are set to flexbox vertical centred with overflow hidden, but how can I get the image to be centred vertically in the div?

The photos look centered to me. Can you record a video using loom.com explaining the issue to help us understand the issue more?
