Gradient is obscuring text and image regardless of location in navigator

I’ve inherited website and m having difficulty re-creating a gradient effect the previous website manager used on slides.

Here you can see an example of the “fader” working. It site in front of the slider image but behind the text content.

Here is a screenshot showing the “fader’s” position in the navigator.

In an attempt to simplify the setup and rework some of the text justification, I’ve created new slider above the old slider. As you can see, the “fader” is obscuring both the text and the image, rather than just the image.

Below are screenshots showing the “fader” in different positions in the navigator, but with no effect; the text is still obscured.
(Note that, unlike the existing slider, my new slider uses a background image for each slide. Perhaps this is problematic?)

Any thoughts on how to achieve the desired effect with the gradient? I’m also open to general improvements or suggestions to the slider composition. Thanks!

Here is my site Read-Only: Webflow - Terran

It looks like the text content needs a higher z-index. The gradient is “1” so changing the text div to “2” will place it higher in the stacking order. Is this what you’re looking to do?
