Is this something I should worry about? Google is flagging this search results page with a soft 404 notice Search Results
I’ve read what Google has to say about this but it doesn’t really make that much sense to me. Google states “Returning a success status code, rather than 404 (not found)
, 410 (gone)
, or 301 (permanent redirect)
, is a bad practice. A success status code tells search engines that there’s a real page at that URL. As a result, the page may be listed in search results, and search engines will continue trying to crawl that non-existent URL instead of spending time crawling your real pages.”
I was thinking of just placing a robots no-index tag on the page to sort things; is this a bad idea though?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
