Gap on left hand side

Hi,

I’m following the Freelancer’s Journey course but I have a grey gap on the left of my canvas area which is also visible in preview more. It’s driving me crazy. I’ve read several other posts about this, but none of them have helped. Some responses explain that it’s just a feature of the interface but it’s not visible on the tutorial that I’m following - see attachment.

UPDATE : I thought this might be because I was following an old course, but I’ve just started the latest 2021 Portfolio course with a brand new project and I’m seeing the same gap. Does anyone else see this gap? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ve probably overlooked something very simple.
