I’ve noticed an unusual issue where there’s a delay from Webflow in recognizing a new file that I’m trying to relink to an image, and wondering if there’s a way to fix this.
So I might have an image that needs to be updated in the source file and then added back to my layout. So after making the changes in Photoshop, Illustrator or Figma, I’ll export the new file using the same filename as before. (example: background-graphic1.jpg)
But when I select the IMAGE or a DIV that applies this as the background, and go to upload the new graphic, it’s always unable to be selected the first time. If I unselect the DIV, then go back and do the process again, then the graphic appears as it should.
This happens even if I wait for a while. (several minutes)
It’s not a big deal, but it’s a frustrating delay that slows down my workflow. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!
If you’re experiencing issues with image uploads in Webflow, here are some troubleshooting steps:
Your browser extensions might be interfering with the upload process. Try uploading your images in an Incognito or private browsing window. If this works, you can then learn how to troubleshoot your browser extensions.
Make sure your internet connection is stable and has at least 5 mbps speed for smooth operation. You might also want to check that your images meet Webflow’s requirements:
Maximum file size: 4MB
Supported formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG
Recommended dimensions: under 4000px on any side
If the images meet these requirements but still won’t upload, try clearing your browser cache and cookies, or switching to a different supported browser like Chrome or Firefox.
Hopefully this helps! If you still need assistance, please reply here so somebody from the community can help.
Webflow tends to cache files with the same name, so even if you overwrite the export, it may not refresh right away. Renaming the file slightly (like background-graphic1a.jpg) usually forces instant recognition. Had to do this on a client project where updates weren’t showing.
