Embedly Causing HTTP HTTPS Non-secure Issue

Hi Guys!

Since the Google update on 24th July, I’ve noticed a site I’ve built constantly saying “Insecure Content Blocked”. When I investigated further I can see the offending articles in the console. It looks to be the software used to embed videos ‘natively’ in Webflow; embedly. All the videos the site is hosting have https URLs so this shouldn’t be happening but it’s causing the site to have some serious load problems with the videos taking a long long time and the non-secure message being displayed after I select to run unsafe scripts.

What’s going on with the video upload tool? Is anyone else experiencing this?

Here’s an example of one of the links:

You can see the only items causing issue are these Youtube videos that I’ve uplaoded ‘natively’ in Webflow.

Any ideas chaps?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

This does seem like odd behavior.

Would you be able to provide a screenshot of your entire browser window within Incognito mode where the error is occurring?

Thanks in advance, and I’ll be standing by for your response.

Thanks for getting back to me @mistercreate

I’ve included shots of what you’ve asked for. The videos using Embedly for Webflow seemingly embed ising the CDN and the links are http which is causing the site to display the non-secure . It is seemingly really slowing down the site load times.

Any ideas @mistercreate ?

Hi there,

Thank you so much for following up with me.

I was able to create a clone of your project, however I was unable to reproduce the issue as you may notice the HTTPS version loads the videos: https://excel-944b94-youtube.webflow.io/

Read-only - https://preview.webflow.com/preview/excel-944b94-youtube?preview=381f0c7c8fb4134a62f231fbc1260a6d

Next, would you be able to remove the custom code from the of your project, and then re-publish?

This will allow us to test if any custom code is causing the issue.

Thanks in advance, and I’ll be standing by for your response.

Hey Micah,

Base tag was set to http rather than https - I’ve now changed this to https and the sites working fine. Can’t say I fully understand why but I will settle for that.

Ah, great eye.

Yes, the Base Tag will set all relative URLs in a document.

And because the Embedly link was cdn.embedly.com/widgets/media.html?.… - it changed it.

Glad you were able to find it :webflow_heart:
