Do I Need a Site Plan During Development or Only When Ready to Publish?

Hi!

I want to develop a website using an existing Webflow template with minimal costs. I was planning to purchase a Site Plan only when the site is ready to be published for my client. This template had a couple of pages (main one, about me, offer etc.) and contains CMS.

However, there are some things I don’t understand regarding plans.

  1. Do I need a Site Plan during the development phase, or can I wait until the site is ready to go live? I thought I can handover the project to the client and he can buy the Site Plan at that time.
  2. Is a Workspace Plan necessary during development, or can I use the Free Workspace Plan until the site is hosted? Some sources say that the free plan will be enough and others that I will only be able to modify 2 subpages in my template. Is that true?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Zan,

Since it looks like you’re crossing the 2-page limit on the free plan, it looks you’ll need paid plans.

Hi Rory,
Thank you for the response!

What about the Site Plan? Do I need one?

I think this would be the best option for you while working on the website:

I’m pretty sure you won’t need a paid site plan then, but somebody might be able to confirm that for me.

As Rory said, your best bet is probably the Freelancer workspace plan while you’re completing your development.

Once you’re done, you will need to add a paid Site plan.

At that point, if you are not developing any further sites, you can cancel your Freelancer workspace plan. The Site plan will still give you full designer capabilities, but for that site only.
