Hi, reaching out regarding the DNS transfer required.
In my current set up, I have connected my website to a www. domain and made it as default. I set up a permanent forwarding (301) from motelboutiquehygge .com to www.motelboutiquehygge .com on GoDaddy directly (so Webflow doesn’t handle the redirect, Godaddy does).
The thing is Webflow wants me to update both domains, and if I do so, it will remove the forwarding I set up on GoDaddy, and update both domains with new DNS records.
Do I really need to update both? What happens if I only update the www. one and leave my forwarding on GoDaddy for the other. It should still function, right?
It should work fine if you leave your apex domain on GoDaddy with a 301 to your www but I don’t see why you’d want that as a configuration. Personally I’d fix that just to ensure Webflow has everything it expects, generates the SSL’s itself and that the dashboard is all green lights.
You said that you already have your apex redirected at Godaddy, I’m assuming to the www?
It’s not standard, but if you don’t change that DNS setting it will just keep working as is.
I’m not sure how GoDaddy does its redirects, but some registrars do strange things like origin-based redirects or IFRAMEd content. You could get unwanted results like losing paths;
e.g. https://mysite.com/blog-article → https://www.mysite.com
If you have those problems, you’d see them in you current setup as well.
