Div block between grid spacing?

say i am using a 3 column grid and want to add a colored border to separate the 3 columns…

while i could use the border feature it extends 100% of the side and i’m only looking for say 70% from center (just for aesthetics). is there a way to add a div block between the spacing (that you designate) of the grid columns to make that happen? or any other suggestions to add a border/line between the grid columns @ only 70% from center?
