Confusing UX throughout

We are new to Webflow, and I must say, that the UX is extremely confusing, not intuitive, and finding simple things are very hard. Examples:

  • Opening the site in designer mode, you have to hover the site, and click the confusing labeled button “Open Site”. One of the worst workflows Ive ever seen, especially the name of the button. I read that button as actually opening my sites url.

  • You have 2 kinds of editors, linking from 2 completely different locations. Confusing

  • Adding editors, does NOT grant them access to the designer (again, multiple words here with varying meanings).

  • Share Site Button: Very bad explanation in the popup with no action at all. What am I sharing? Can you provide a link? How do I share the designer?

Hey Wesley, I have been using WF for 8 years now,
In case you’re curious…

Webflow’s changed that recently, because it used to read “Designer” or “Design site.” That seemed to confuse people who only have Editor mode or Commenting mode access. I can see why they’re having difficulty choosing a name there, but I’m not a big fan of “Open Site” either.

The “legacy editor” that you access with ?edit on the site URL has been deprecated and is going away this year. Webflow’s mid-migration on that now, and the editor mode experience in the designer is taking that role. That’s a huge shift.

I’ll just say that once you’ve used the platform for a bit, and you understand the huge amount of functionality they have packed into the interface, and the huge range of user types they’re dealing with, you’ll appreciate better the balance they’re trying to strike.

But yes, a few small changes can go a long way. If you want to communicate your ideas to the Webflow team, the way is to use the wishlist at wishlist.webflow.com.
