Wondering if someone can help me out. I’m striking an issue of CMS items creating issues with canonical tags, empty links and orphan urls in website audits. Additionally as we have CMS items archive frequently it’s creating issues.
Does anyone have any insight into how I can amend this? I’ve just added our global canonical tag into the site settings so hopefully that takes effect soon.
Hi Bryan,
It would be difficult to help without published site links and specifics.
You’ll need to be specific about the errors you’re getting, which pages they’re on, and what you’re wanting to change to remedy it.
In general, yes make certain your canonical is setup properly under site settings. Webflow added some safeguards here that should make that easier to do correctly. Check your published HTML to verify everything.
Empty links(?) not sure what you mean here.
Orphan URLs means you’re not linking to those pages from other parts of your site. If you have a blog, you probably want a blog directory as well.
Archival generally isn’t relevant, unless you’re trying replace items with new items, in which case you want to add a 301 redirect to the new item. Google does not penalize 404’s. If you expect a lot of 404’s, build out you 404 page well, on client sites which change frequently, I typically integrate a pre-populated site search box, links to home and key pages, etc.
