7-second delay before animation on mobile

Greetings forum,

I can’t get a grip on why my hero load animation has a significant (approx. 6-8 sec delay) before commencing on mobile, while on desktop everything works fine. This issue doesn’t appear in preview mode; it appears only if you actually visit the published Webflow site on mobile with this link: http://wpf-f81b86.webflow.io/

Read-only link: [[https://preview.webflow.com/preview/wpf-f81b86?utm_source=wpf-f81b86&preview=147a2684396b4a3502468ae16bb8b86d]

Many thanks in advance!
Nicholas

Hi @nicholasvi

I’ve tested on iPhone and Android Chrome/Firefox and there is a small delay, although not as long as you are experiencing.

  • Are you using any custom code in the project?

  • Which browsers are you seeing this, on mobile?

  • Devices/OS will also be useful for the Bugs Team.

Hi @StuM

Thanks for your quick reply! I’m not using any custom code on the project.

I’m using Safari on iPhone.

Thanks again…

Hi @nicholasvi

Thanks for posting — I was able to reproduce the issue on this end using Safari on an iPhone 8. It doesn’t look like the slow load speeds happen in Chrome though.

I did some testing and it looks like there is a page load interaction with a 2 second delay and 2 second duration:
CloudApp

After removing this it looks like the speed was increased slightly — can you test this on your end and let me know if this helps?

Could you also please visit the following link on your mobile device and let me know what browser / OS version you’re using?

There should be a small share link when you visit the page which you can send to me.

The team is actively working now on some platform updates to monitor and improve the performance levels across the board.

Here is a good article you can reference around boosting performance: https://webflow.com/blog/how-to-boost-your-sites-performance

Thanks in advance!

@nicholasvi I think that’s your issue. The page load interaction won’t get triggered until the video has loaded, which is a 10mb mp4 in Safari. The rest of the page is interactive while “above the fold” stays white. I’d suggest that you remove that interaction, and let the video placeholder poster image show while the video is loading.
